It was a lovely sunny day for the home match against Maldon, with Romford winning the push back. Our forward line started strong, with Emma and Sonata working well together to put immediate pressure on the opposition. There was good communication across the pitch which allowed for accurate passing to blue shirts and a good use of triangles.. Emma scored our first goal with an assist from Kemi, unfortunately Maldon was able to strike back making the score 1:1. The game remained even as both teams fought to take the lead, until Kemi set Emma up for a 1v1 with the keeper, which gave Romford another goal, making the score 2:1. Unfortunately, Maldon was able to even the score before half time.
The main message of the half time talk was to increase enthusiasm and step back onto the pitch wanting to take the win. To do this we decided to start in warrior mode.
We came into the second half with much more energy, determined to get back into the lead, we kept good pressure on the opposition, remaining in their half and having plenty of opportunities in the D. We were able to quickly win a short corner, which was converted into a goal by kemi from Katie's assist.
We then had another period of sustained pressure from Romford, creating two very good opportunities, unfortunately they were not converted. After this, Maldon seemed to get back into the game, putting pressure on our defence who held their own very well against the strong attack. Our final goal, scored by MoM Emma, came from an assist from Kemi, who passed the ball from the top the D straight to Emma who finished it off, sealing Romford Ladies victory.
