Womens 1st XI vs Upminster 3

23 November 2024 | Sonata Beach
Womens 1st XI vs Upminster 3

On a chilly morning, with strong winds against them, Romford Ladies 1XI faced Upminster 3 Ladies, who sit second in the table. Despite the tough conditions, both teams began the first half evenly matched. Romford managed to break the deadlock at the 25-minute mark. After an Upminster foul, Sonata Beach took a free hit on the edge of the opposition's D. Skillfully moving away from goal, Sonata outmaneuvered two players before delivering a precise pass to striker Kemi, who slotted the ball past the keeper to open the scoring.

At halftime, coach Lawrie took the opportunity to highlight the need for more balanced play, urging the team to utilize the left side and switch play more effectively.

The second half began with Upminster coming out stronger, leveling the score within the first 10 minutes. Romford fought hard to regain their lead, with striker Ellie narrowly missing a one-on-one opportunity against the Upminster keeper. Both teams pushed the tempo, increasing physicality and intensity as the match progressed. Romford’s midfield, demonstrating their trademark resilience, refused to relent until the final whistle.

The Romford defense and keeper put on a stellar display to ensure Upminster did not take all three points. Special recognition goes to Caroline Williams, who stepped up to the first team and performed brilliantly, seamlessly fitting into the squad.

This week’s Player of the Match goes to Katie Williams, whose tireless effort and determination in midfield were pivotal throughout the game.

Final score: Romford Ladies 1XI 1 - 1 Upminster 3 Ladies
