Womens 1st XI vs Old Loughts 3

So the first game of the season and we were excited to be back. Although we it was very muggy we had a healthy squad of 13 which is always a bonus when we haven't played together in a while. And a very special shout out to our supporters! Was great to have you with us.

After a small delay, as the pitch needed watering, we were underway. The main objective for todays game was to have fun and keep the possession, if we keep possession they can't score.

Throughout the first half we were playing some lovely possession hockey and supporting each other up and down the field, utlising all our skillsets, while the first 35 mins felt long it was great to see us playing well. There was great build up play from Grace to Abbie, who were both finding Sonata, Ellie, Greta and Leah, however we just couldn't connect with that end ball, but we were building momentum.

Old loughts came out strong and quick, and it was clear that they wanted to play in a quick tempo - however our midfielders, Lorraine, Kim, Abbie, Caroline & Katie were preventing them from gaining the upper hand, who were nicely feeding our forward line.

Romford managed to put themselves 1 up into the half time which was a great reward for the hard work we had been putting in.

There was a lovely quick one two from Steph to Katie, who knocked the ball up to Leah, who subsequently found sonata who didn't let us down and managed to find the back of the net.

Old loughts came back at us, however there was some lovely jabbing rom Nat, who prevented one of their strikers getting through. They had to think of another way to get through. Towards the end of the first half old loughts won a short corner, however this was well defend. Lisa was not letting anyone near her goal!

We took a little while to get going in the second half, which unfortunately resulted in them scoring. This didn't faze us, we dusted our self down and got going again. Again we had a nice spell of possession and were reclying the ball well. Sonata showed her oppo her fancy stick work, by elimating them, and delivering a lovely ball to Greta, but it was just out of her reach.

Old loughts struggled to get into Romfords D throughout the game, and the only time they did get into the D Lisa managed to eliminate the ball.

Within the last 10 mins Romford were holding strong, every one played their part to help the game stay at 1-1. Greta had a fab shot when from a Romford counter attack, only to be stopped on the line.
